FCCLA Region Results

The Granger chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the Region V Conference, which was held in Corpus Christi, TX, February 10-12, 2011. The chapter members were among 900 delegates attending the three-day conference.

 

The Region Officer Team developed the theme, “Ignite the FCCLA Flame” , carried out through different pictures of Olympians, featured a series of specialized workshops and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.

 

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members participated at the regional meeting. These events allowed members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition.  Granger FCCLA had 11 teams compete on Thursday afternoon and Friday. 

 

Junior Parliamentary Procedure placed 3rd.  Members of the team are: Zachary Miller, Kayla Vitek, Daniel Pavelka, Mario Gonzalez, Ashley Freydenfeldt, Deuce Krueger, Jesse Dews, Erin Pustejovsky, and Blake Bilbrey.

 

Senior Parliamentary Procedure placed 3rd.  Member so the team are: Jake Miller, Corey Miller, Bryce Jimenez, Preston Jimenez, Kelly Johnson, Desiree Reese, Desiree Cruz, and Raquel Luna.

 

Senior Focus on Children is a display event showcase projects that positively affect children’s development.  Lorena Lizardo and Allie Aguilar placed 2nd.

Entrepreneurship is an event in which students design a business portfolio.  Kelsey Schmehl placed 2nd.  Susie Pineda and Julia Elizondo placed 3rd.

 

Job Interview challenges a student to design a portfolio showcasing a career of interest.  The student must complete a job application and interview.  Alex Reed placed 2nd.

 

Career Investigation is designed for younger students to investigate and research a desired career.  At contest, they report the findings through a speech and portfolio.  Taylor Prinz placed 1st.

 

Life Event Planning is an event that challenges a student to research and budget for a future event.  Josh Garrick placed 4th.

 

Illustrated Talk is an event where students present topics that affect the family.  The student is to design visual aids to explain the topic and demonstrate what FCCLA can do to help.  Wayde Sweeting placed 2nd.

 

Promote and Publicize FCCLA challenges students to explore ways to market the positive attributes of this leadership organization.  The competitors are required to design a portfolio with marketing strategies and explain them in a speech.  Also, the students have to complete a writing sample for marketing.  Lizzie Adams placed 4th.

 

Chapter Showcase is a display event that students creatively design a visual to illustrate the activities completed by the chapter for the year.  Brooke Cole and Julia Derning took on the challenge of competing in this event.  The Granger FCCLA chapter is very proud of their leadership shown through this project and their dedication.  

 

All students who placed have advanced to compete at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference on April 13-16 in Houston, Texas.

 

Alyssa Wade, a sophomore at Granger High School, served as Region Vice President of Parliamentary Law.  Her leadership responsibility was to conduct the House of Delegates to transact official region business.  At this time, the new officer team for 2011-2012 was elected to carry on the flame.  Granger had three students run for regional office.  Kirk Dunn’s leadership showed through his speech presentation.   Alyssa Blomquist was elected to serve as Region Vice President of Parliamentary Law.  Alyssa Wade was elected to serve as Region Vice President of Achievement. 

A special thank you goes out to the parents who volunteered to chaperone.  The chaperones for the weekend were: Bebe Johnson, Sandi Dunn, Amy Vargas, Jimmie Baker, Deana Garrick, Rosie Sweeting, Trish Miller, and Jennifer Wade.  You have helped broaden futures by helping this past weekend. 

 

FCCLA is a dynamic youth organization that has the family as its central focus. Student leaders of Texas FCCLA are ready to “Ignite the FCCLA Flame” and progress with Career & Technology programs related Architecture and Construction, Arts, A/V Technology and Communication, Education and Training, Hospitality and Tourism, Marketing, and Human Services.
