Worth the Wait Program
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As part of the state-mandated health curriculum, a unit on human sexuality is taught to all GISD students in grades 6-9. The science teachers utilize Scott and White’s abstinence-education curriculum entitled “Worth the Wait.” The curriculum includes a comprehensive two-week unit based on the medical and legal facts regarding teen sexuality. It will be taught the first two weeks of May.
According to the Texas Education Code, GISD must provide you with the opportunity to review the content of the District’s human sexuality instruction. We will make that available to view April 6th at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. All parents are encouraged to attend. Research shows that parents are the most influential persons regarding teens’ decisions about sex. If you are unable to attend this meeting, and would like to review the material, you can make an appointment with the nurse.
As a parent/guardian, you have the right to remove your child from any part of the human sexuality instruction. If you do not want your child to participate in this unit, please complete the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school nurse.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Charles Hammond, Principal
Granger ISD
