Letter to Boys Basketball Parents
Dear Parent/Guardians,
There seems to be some confusion surrounding the fact that we are lucky enough to have 3 high school basketball teams this year. For this I apologize, and hope that this letter will help clarify any questions you may have. Granger ISD has a ‘no cut policy’ in regards to athletic participation, meaning all athletes that come out for a sport will have a spot on the team. At the start of this season, Coach Kuhl and I informed all of our players that we would be having two Junior Varsity teams, making it possible for all 34 players that came out for basketball to have more court time. This discussion took place over a period of about a week so that the guys could come home and talk about it with you. As far as selection of players to the teams, Coach Kuhl and I have made the decisions based on what we feel is best for this program and then for the individual. I feel we are very lucky to have enough for 3 teams this year, and I plan to carry on with this as long as we have the numbers to support it.
Scheduling of additional games is where the confusion may be coming into play. Due to the fact that there are few teams in our district with the luxury of having the numbers that we have- we are forced to go outside of the district to find games. Unfortunately, there are times that these games can’t be scheduled until the last minute due to cancellations in other teams’ schedules or that we find teams that we weren’t aware had openings. Again, I apologize for this, but it is the nature of the situation that we are in. I realize this can cause problems as far as personal schedules are concerned, but with the athletes’ interests at hand, I am sure you understand our dilemma.
So, as far as the rest of the district schedule is concerned, we will proceed as follows: When we are able to find a JV ‘B’ game, it will be held on Monday nights after the Junior High Boys game-per the minutes of our basketball district committee. The boys that play in the Monday game will not suit up for the Tuesday game; however, they will participate in the Friday game as scheduled. If we are unable to find a JV ‘B’ game, all Junior Varsity players will suit up for the Tuesday and Friday games.
I do hope that this will clear up some of the questions there may be and feel free to call me with any concerns you may have. You can reach me easiest through e-mail at tgrandjean@granger.txed.net or call (512)859-2173.
Thank You,
Todd Grandjean
Kody Kuhl
