MINUTES OF SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF APRIL 28, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Board President Timmy Tidwell at 6:32 P.M.

Persons present were Supt. Dr. James Bartosh, board members Timmy Tidwell, Lillie Huf, Kenneth Cervenka, Tommy Filla, Debra Cavanaugh, James Cervenka and Lenard Pekar.

Also in attendance was school secretary Margaret Vrana, business manager Steve White, and athletic director Coach Stacey Hunt.

The purpose of the special called meeting was to select a Lone Finalist for the superintendent’s position.

Stacey Hunt gave his farewell and addressing himself leaving Granger ISD and going to Wharton ISD where he accepted a job as head coach. He thanked the board for everything they had done for him and supporting him during his time in Granger. The board accepted his resignation and wished him the best at Wharton ISD.

  1. MOTION TO CONVENE IN CLOSED SESSION AS DETERMINED BY THE BOARD. THERE MAY BE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION PURSUANT TO THE TEXAS OPEN MEETING ACT TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 551.10. DISCUSS EMPLOYMENT OF SUPERINTENDENT AND ITEMS RELATING TO PERSONNEL TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE 551.074. ANY ACTION TAKEN WILL BE IN PUBLIC SESSION.

Kenneth Cervenka made a motion to go into closed session at 6:35 P.M. Debra Cavanaugh seconded the motion. Unanimous vote.

Present were Dr. James Bartosh, superintendent, Steve White, business manager, and board members Lenard Pekar, James Cervenka, Debra Cavanaugh, Tommy Filla, Kenneth Cervenka, Timmy Tidwell, and Lillie Huf.

The board discussed personnel. This included the superintendent vacancy. After contributing various information, Dr. Bartosh left the meeting.

Lillie Huf moved that the board return to open session at 7:55 P.M. A second was made by Debra Cavanaugh. All were in favor.

A motion was made by Lillie Huf to confirm the selection of Steve White as sole finalist for the superintendent position. James Cervenka seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in favor.

Steve White will serve as Interim Superintendent. He has to wait 21 days before he can sign a contract and then he will be declared as superintendent.

May 13th was decided upon as the date for the May school board meeting at 7:00P.M. Votes will be canvassed at this meeting. The board will attend the board training workshop in Temple on Wednesday, May 14th. A special meeting will be held on Monday, May 19th at 6:30 P.M. at which Steve White will sign a contract, making his role as superintendent official.

A motion to adjourn at 8:06 P.M. was made by Kenneth Cervenka. Debra Cavanaugh seconded. All were in favor.
