Course Guidelines

September 16, 2007

Grades:

All grades are based on a 100% scale.

Daily Grade                              50%

Major Tests                              25%

Six Weeks Test/Project            25%

You will receive a grade report every three weeks.  The semester grade will be based on five grades:  each of the 3 Six Weeks Grades, the Semester Exam or Project, and the Career Connections Project.

Participation is expected.  A variety of activities will be introduced to help students comprehend the material being taught.  Attendance is a must.  If a student is absent, he/she is responsible for the work missed. The student has 3 school days to make up the assignment(s) missed.  If the work is not turned in after 3 days, the assignments will be considered late and will accrue the late penalties.  Extra Credit work will be available upon request if the student has turned in work in a timely and quality manner.

Textbooks:  Textbooks are used as resource books for the course being taught.  Textbooks will not be checked out to students If a situation arises when a textbook needs to go home, I will have the chapter copied and sent home with the student.

Late Work will be accepted under the following guidelines. Students will be assigned to ZAP if they do not turn in the work on the day that it is due. Once the work has been turned in, the highest grade given will be a 50.  Students are responsible for turning their work in on time.  Make Up Work:  If a student is absent, the student is allowed 3 school days to make up the work.  If it is not turned in at the end of the 3rd day, it is considered to be late.

Tardy PolicyA student’s first responsibility for this class is to be on time.  No excuses will be tolerated.  If the student was with another teacher, a note from that teacher should accompany the student to class. Otherwise, the student will be assigned to ZAP.  They will make up twice the amount of time that they were late after school that day.

.    Example:  The student is 5 minutes late to class.  Ten minutes will be made up in ZAP after school that day.

The Cheating Policy will be enforced.  Students choosing to copy the work of another student(s) for individual assignments will be graded in the following manner:

1st Offense:                An average of all grades will be taken. The average grade

will then be divided by the number of students involved.

Parents of all students involved will be notified.

2nd Offense:                Students involved will receive zeros.  A parent conference will

be called for all students involved.

3rd Offense:               Students involved will be reported to the principal.  Parents

will be notified.

Discipline:  The CHAMPS Classroom Management program will be used in my class.

It is a program that helps the teacher better explains what is expected with classroom behavior, class work, activities, and labs.

The students have requested the return of  Funny Money.  This is a dual-purpose program.  It rewards students for positive accomplishments dealing with respect and responsibility; also, it works in controlling discipline.  The students earn Funny Money by attending class, participating, turning in quality work, grades, citizenship, and random acts of kindness.  Funny Money cannot be shared.  Only the person, who earned it, may spend it.  The student is responsible for keeping up with their “money”. If they lose it, it is lost.  At the end of each six weeks, raffle drawings will be held.  The Funny Money earned can also be used for extra bonus points on selected assignments and used to purchase necessary school supplies, such as pens and paper.

Funny Money may be taken away for a variety of reasons:  rudeness, incomplete work, and disruption of class time are just a few of those reasons.

Class Expectations:

  1. Respect Everyone.
  2. Follow Directions the first time they are given.
  3. Be in class on time.
  4. Stay in assigned area.
  5. Have blue/black ink pen and paper.
  6. Know and follow school policies.
  7. You are responsible for your performance in this class.

In order to pass any Family & Consumer Sciences Course, the student must complete a Career Connection ProjectMore information will be given about these projects at a late time.  I ask that parents aid in guiding the student in these projects because they are to be done at home.

The Family & Consumer Sciences Department allows for extra curricular activities related to the course.  The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a club for students who wish to become involved in leadership, self-growth, school support, and community involvement.  This organization is a super motivator for experiences that will greatly benefit you.  Many valuable lessons are learned through the organization’s experiences.  Dues are $25.00 to join.  This includes the organization’s t-shirt.   In order to participate in FCCLA activities, the student must be passing.

My job and commitment to the student is to see that they succeed.  So therefore, I will be making parent contacts frequently throughout this year.  Also, my classroom will be available during the tutorial period for extra instruction.

Parent/Teacher Contact Information:  Please feel free to contact me by email:  Lhuebner@granger.txed.net   I check it regularly and respond as soon as it is possible.

I do not have a conference period this year.  If you need to visit with me in person, please call for an appointment.
