Update on District of Innovation Plan

Granger ISD is moving forward with its plan for becoming a District of Innovation.  On Wednesday, March 22, a special board meeting was held for a public hearing on the DOI and to approve a committee for developing a DOI Plan.  The school board voted 5-2 to move forward with the district looking at a DOI plan.  The board also voted 7-0 to approve the SBDMC as the DOI committee.

The SBDMC met on Thursday March 23rd and took up the DOI Plan.  The SBDMC committee voted 8-2 to move forward with District of Innovation and then voted 8-2 to accept the DOI plan as presented with flexibility for the start of school.  With the approval of the plan, the committee also voted 10-0 to recommend school calendar Option C, which is based off the DOI plan.  The DOI plan and school calendar C can be found on the links below.

TEA has been been informed of the Granger DOI plan, and we will have it posted on our web site for the next 30 days as required in the DOI process.  The DOI plan will then be presented to the school board on May 11th for their final approval of the plan.  The plan must receive 2/3rds vote of the school board to become a District of Innovation.

Announcing Granger ISD's New Athletic Director

Granger ISD is pleased to announce our new athletic director, Walter Brock.  Coach Brock comes to us from Anson High School where he was the offensive coordinator and QB coach, assistant varsity basketball, and head track coach.  He has 18 years of coaching experience, and during his time at Anson helped bring the first district championship in football in 26 years, along with the longest playoff run in school history.  Before Anson, Coach Brock spent 7 years at Riesel, where he assisted in advancing the football team to the state quarterfinals in 2009 and area finals in 2011.

Not only did we find a great coach, but we found a great teacher in him as well.  He teaches history with a very successful track record of success in the classroom as well as on the field.

A fairly local guy, he graduated from Thorndale High School in 1993 and is eager to return to the area as he settles into a long career with Granger ISD.  He’s ready to bleed purple and gold for our athletic program.

We sincerely appreciate the community input in developing the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach profile for this process.  We’d like to thank the applicant review committee and the interview committee, which consisted of parents, community members, school board members, and senior staff.  They all worked together throughout the hiring process, and Coach Brock became the clear choice for Granger ISD.  We’re excited to welcome him and his family into our community!

Inclement Weather Procedures
Information on how Granger ISD will respond if there is a need to address severe weather conditions: — A district representative will investigate the designated bus routes at 5 a.m. to determine conditions on bridges and low lying areas. If there is a need to cancel school or implement a late start, a message will be sent out via the Granger ISD call-out system at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. as well as a posting on our district website and notifying local television news stations. You can also connect with us on Facebook and Twitter at the links at the bottom of the page. The safety of our students is the main concern in situations such as these. Thank you and have a nice day!
